Staff picks: 5 films for Halloween

The members of La Chemise Club have chosen for you 5 films to watch on Halloween. Anguish, blood but also style for this vintage selection from the late 70s, 80s and 90s, of which we have the secret.

The Lair of the White Worm, 1988

Directed by Ken Russell, loosely based on the novel by Bram Stoker

A script on acid, cardboard special effects, a snake woman, a bit of a failed erotic TV movie feel, a Hugh Grant who is absolutely useless AND above all, 80s looks to die for. What more could you ask for?

Thanks to Marie-Aurélie BuffyTheVampireSlayer for the recommendation and these few words

The Thing, 1982

Directed by John Carpenter, adapted from the short novel Who Goes There? ( 1938) by John W. Campbell.

If you thought you had a tough job, watch The Thing and you'll change your mind. In Antarctica, a team of researchers discovers that an alien creature is on their base. Problem: they're cut off from the world and the thing is a parasite. No longer knowing who is infected and who is not, the team's men will sink into fear and paranoia.

Alien, 1979

Directed by Ridley Scott

Another slightly oppressive work environment, this time in space. Climb aboard the Nostromo, where a team on a routine mission is pulled out of hibernation by the ship's onboard computer having spotted an alien life form. Quickly attacked by this very scary creature, the crew members will try to survive in a tin can in the middle of nowhere.

Suspiria, 1977

Directed by Dario Argento

Suspiria is captivating at first glance, with its half-breathtaking, half-cardboard baroque setting where a struggle to retain power takes place while everything around it crumbles and rots.

Enter this film with music that drives you crazy, take a violent shot of red, then let the (black) magic work. A macabre fantasy that borrows as many elements from the giallo as from the tale, from which we emerge amazed.

Death Becomes Her , 1992

Directed by Robert Zemeckis

Set against the backdrop of a quest for infinite youth and the perfect physique, this comedy presents us with characters who are all equally despicable, and we love it. Two long-time friends and rivals fight over a mediocre man (a brilliantly bad Bruce Willis) and will stop at nothing to win this race for beauty and success. Big love for Isabella Rossellini as a magnificent witch!
